Aquatic plants at Platt Fields

The aquatic plants at Platt Fields had been sitting in their containers for quite some time, so our first job was to divid up some of the root balls. We added some of the mud they had been stood in, in the hope this would help them get established.

Then it was waders, lifejackets, and into the boat. We took a few young trees to add to those on the island, as well as marsh marigolds, flag irises, water forget-me-not, and another plant we have not yet had identified.

We tried to cause as little disturbance to the coots as we could, but some was inevitable. Hopefully in the long run, they will gain better more sheltered nesting sites.

All in all it was a very fun and interesting experience, and we hope to be involved with further planting in the lake!
